Fall Baking

Fall baking is my favorite time to bake. I love the smell of the spices, brown sugar and cinnamon!!! Not to mention the fruits used to flavor cakes…apples and pumkins…Oh my!

I will however confess chocolate is still my “numero uno” no matter the season.

So It’s September in Tennessee and everything is still green but the local craft stores already have the Halloween items marked down 40% and are filling their displays with Holiday cheer so before we blink and miss the flavor of fall, I’d like to share this recipe:

2 eggs (separate yolk from white)

2/3 cup melted unsalted butter

1-1/2 cups pureed red apples or unsweetened applesauce

 

2 cups all-purpose flour

1-1/3 cups granulated sugar

1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Pinch of ground nutmeg

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350

Whip the egg whites then add the yolks. Fold in the butter and apples. Mix well.

In a separate bowl mix all the dry ingredients and then add slowly to your mix

Pour your batter into your lined pan or pans and bake!

Check to see if cake is done after 35 minutes (and then every 5 minutes if not ready)

 

Enjoy This delicious Spiced Apple cake…and if not at least your kitchen will smell of FALL!
